Payment at the lodge

We don’t have a direct phone line at the lodge yet, so we can not use a credit card machine, we would appreciate if you can pay cash at the lodge in US dollars or Colones.

The bank in Costa Rica will hold traveler checks for more than 30 days, we would appreciate if you could change your traveler checks before arriving at the lodge (Bijagua, Canas, Upala, San Rafael de Guatuso)

Check in and Check out times

La Carolina Lodge doesn’t have any schedules, so there are no set check in or check out times. If you arrive early it might be possible that your room or cabin is still occupied or not cleaned yet. We always have a place to put your luggage.

If you decide to leave late our staff might ask to move your luggage so they will be able to clean and prepare the room/cabin for the next guests.

Late arrival

We don’t recommend to driving at night time in Costa Rica. Especially in our area it can be really dark and the last 7 kms to the lodge is unpaved.

We recommend to arrive at La Carolina Lodge no later than 6.00 pm if possible, our lodge is lit by candle light and that way you can still see our lodge and its environment before it gets dark.

Our kitchen closes at app 7:30 pm, we advise guests that arrive later  to have dinner before arriving at the lodge. Later dinners can be prearranged if booked in advance.

For the respect and privacy of our guests and staff we do not accept any arrivals after 9:00 pm unless prior arrangement has been made with us.

Alcoholic beverages

Alcoholic beverages are not included in our rates. Guests can purchase beer at our local cantina (1.5 km away). Because we are located in a remote area and wine or liquor is not always available, we would recommend guests to purchase these beverages in advance upon their arrival.

Flash lights

At night time our lodge is candle lit, but we do provide limited electricity and lighting in the houses. We recommend guests to bring their own reading and flash lights.

Children at the lodge

Because of safety reasons  small children will ride horses with their parents or our guide.

We love children but we would like all guests to know that La Carolina Lodge is not an ideal place for very young children; we have a lot of steps around the lodge and property, there is a deep and fast flowing river beside the lodge, our hot tub is more than 1 meter deep and at night time the lodge is candle lit.
